Novel Noel
The Elusive Find December 15th, 2009Every year at this time we search in vain for a Christmas tie that is not the usual. That is to say, one not decorated with Santas or snowflakes, reindeer or wreaths, Christmas trees or colored Christmas light bulbs. We have nothing against those things—we are just bored. We tried the understated route—a green tie with red dots, say, or a red one with green stripes—but it lacked a certain festivity. And the conversation piece route (musical light-ups, anyone?) is far, far worse. Now, in the Nick of time (pardon the pun), the ever-enterprising Aidan Gill has managed to uncover a good-looking holiday neckpiece that also makes us smile. The “Noel” tie has a green background patterned with red capital Ls in the center of the universal symbol for “NO”—a circle with a slash line running through it. Get it? We thought you would. And that you would be as relieved as we are.
